Maternity Mondays: 38 Weeks

The Highlights:

How Far Along: 38 weeks and 3 days

Size of Baby: A Pumpkin.  Which would explain why I am so dang uncomfortable.  Oy vey.

Total Weight Gain / Loss:  +21 pounds

What I am wearing: In the picture below, I am wearing a Gap Maternity Top and my Demi Panel Maternity Jeans, also Gap.  To be honest, any pants that are not full panel leggings are super miserable at this point but alas, these are the only clean pair I have at the moment. The scarf was purchased last Spring from The Twirl Girl here in Denver.

Movement: Still plenty of movement and with the lack of space, each kick takes my breath away.  Ouch.

Sleep: I mean, don't even get me started.  Quite frankly, it's impossible due to the acid reflux, the sharp movements, my achy back, my sore hips, Logan's middle of the night rants....whoops, I started on my own apparently.

What I miss: I am just ready to have my body back.  It's hard playing hostess this far along in the game.

Cravings: Root Beer.  Kind of strange.

Symptoms: Typical 38 week stuff.  Most of it listed above.  While I am uncomfortable, yes, I am also plenty thankful that all looks "great" with baby and that I have had a very healthy and non-eventful pregnancy thus far.

At my last doctor's appointment, I received an ultrasound to check on my fluid levels.  Turns out I have triple the amount needed this time - go figure - so all looks good on that front.  That means that if I go into labor on my own, I will try for a vbac (preferably unmedicated, but I am not dead set on it this time - see I am flexible).  And if I don't go into labor prior to 41 weeks, I will have a scheduled c-section on Wednesday, March 6th.  I can tell you one thing: picturing what my stretched out stomach will look like 3 weeks from now kind of makes me want to cry.  So let's all just say a little prayer that he comes before then.  For vanity's sake.

The tech estimated that he weighs about 6 pounds, 11 ounces.  Logan was born at 39 weeks at 6 pounds, 2 ounces so I will be anxious to see if her estimates are correct given that we still have a couple weeks to go and he should be gaining 1/2 per week in theory.

He is head down and "fully engaged" but on all other fronts (effacement, dilation, etc.) I am showing no signs of a pending birth date.  For those who have been pregnant, you may be able to relate with the 38 week mark and looking for any signs of labor drawing near.  Every ache and pain is tuned into and I can't help but wake up each morning thinking, "maybe today will be the day?!" and going to bed each night making sure that the house is in order "...just in case".  I know it's wishful thinking and that baby W will make his appearance when he is ready, but these last few weeks are truly the hardest when it comes to patience.  I have been drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea like it's my job and doing other natural induction methods to get the ball rolling.

Best moments this week: We have been trying to meet up with as many friends as possible and do things that we most likely won't be doing for several weeks?  months?  after baby arrives.  Chris and I got a sitter on Saturday night and checked out a new restaurant, Twelve (thanks Stacey!), and browsed the local bookstore for a relaxing date night.  Yesterday, I met up with my girlfriends for lunch and a shopping date and enjoyed spending the afternoon doing "me" things.  I took Logan to the zoo on Friday for a play date and today we will be doing our regular Monday morning grocery run.

*Bonus* LMK Happenings: A common question I receive as Baby W's birthday draws near is, "Is Logan ready?" and "Does she get it?"  To which the answers would be yes and no depending on what you ask her.  She knows he is in my belly.  She knows he will make a crying sound.  She knows he will sleep in her room.  She knows that he will wear the little tiny diapers and not her pull ups.  She knows he will swing in the baby swing.  She also thinks he will ride on her bike, will brush his own hair, will dress in her tutus and will eat candy with her.  So...you know...she's on the right track.
