this and that

Has it really been almost a week since I have gabbed at you all? Oh my!

Psst. I will let you in on a little secret. When I don't post, it's usually because one of two reasons:

a) I am busy at work. Yes, it's true, I do actually work. I know, it was wrong to fool you all into thinking that I blog/etsy browse/look up recipes/make charts/rant and rave/shop for a living -only leaving you to wonder how in the world I manage to receive a paycheck every two weeks, teehee. But, what goes around comes around and we are officially b-u-s-y.

or

b) I don't have any sort of picture to adorn my post. Why this bothers me? I have no clue.

And so, here I am, with plenty on my plate at work AND without any pictures, posting away regardless. Ahh, it feels good to break my own rules.

Nothing extremely noteworthy, just thought I would update you on a few highlights of the past 6 days.

- I babysat the. cutest. 6 month old last Saturday. His name is Fletcher, but is referred to as baby Fletch. Their dog, Dr. Noodles, was there too. Haha, I kind of got a kick out of that name! The parents, who are friends of friends, are pretty adorable, stylish to boot and have one kick-ass kid. Chris chose to skip out on the babysitters club adventures, but I made sure to let him know how much fun we were having without him by sending several "guess what baby Fletch is doing now?" text messages. Oh yea, I made some good money too, where I spent the next day at...

- TJ Maxx Home Goods. Hooray for Home Goods. Hooray for Mom for dragging me into Home Goods, before I was "savvy" enough to realize it's awesomeness in reasonably priced home decor. Hooray for my $5 basket. Hooray for my orange and white graphic print over sized pillow. Hooray for me for NOT buying a $100 purse.

- We spent last Sunday evening at our last Jazz in the Park for the summer. Brie, crackers, jam, dark chocolate, wine, beer, wine (no worries, we walk here), feet in the grass, blanket on the ground, the sunset over the skyline whilst being entertained by the finest people watching in all of Denver, a cool breeze, good company, lively music...it's always a great time. We will miss you Jazz in the Park - can't wait for next summer.

- We had our neighbors, Meghan and Mark over for dinner last night. We dined on Smoked Brie (we obviously love us some Brie), Crackers and Jam (ditto), wine and beer (ditto and ditto), Summer Pizza, a BBQ Chicken Pizza (ahem, pizzas are easy. Easy not to mess up that is.), ooh, and some of Leigh's (who's family could still use some thoughts and prayers) amazing chocolate chip cookies for dessert. I think I successfully made a decent cookie. If you know me, you know that this is by far my worst domestic skill. I was pretty pleased when they asked for another. Chris gave me a wink too, which confirmed the baking success.

And lastly, on the horizon for a good time: KiNGs of LeOn this Sunday at Red Rocks. We are stoked.

Gotta run. Getting an influx of 'e-mail dings' reminding me that, yes indeed, I am still at work.

Update

...I'm back to banning WalMart. They can't look up returns on your credit card - you must have the receipt. And the woman behind the counter calls you "Sweetheart" with a snide tone. Yuck.

In other news, I hung out with two of my best girlfriends on Friday evening - it was great to catch up with them, relaxing, sharing, laughing. And although the company was great, the feast Steph made was perhaps the best part of the evening. Note: Artichokes, Spinach, Feta Cheese and Olive Oil make a good pizza. BUT, add Apricots, and you've got yourself a gourmet pie! To. Die. For. I brought dessert and tried my hand at homemade whipped cream over berries and drizzled dark chocolate on top. Skipped the pastry shell because Steph is allergic, but really, didn't even miss it. I have been trying to delete empty carbs and sugar out of my diet here and there and have noticed such a positive difference in how I feel. It has helped make the scale move again too, which I have been struggling with - a few more pounds and I will be at my GOAL that I set in January! Slooow and semi-steady wins the race I suppose?! sigh.

Maddie's Garden Party was a complete success and I had a great time decorating and organizing for it (poor Erin had no choice but to let me take the reigns on this one bc I was having so much fun). Not to mention it was fun to spend the day with the birthday girl! I am interested in promoting event services to family and friends as something to do on the side, so this was hopefully a foot in the right direction to get me going...

I am participating in my first blog swap tomorrow and am gathering "my favorite things" to send to my new swap partner, Melanie. A blogging friend that I have found, Stacey, formed this little swap business and paired those who wanted to be a part of it randomly. The idea is to show your partner (whom you've never met) a little bit about you, while receiving some fun things too. We both will send packages to each other with a few of our favorite things. Kind of like a pen pal - but better in my opinion. Getting a package vs. getting a letter?! Both nice, but clearly, the former is more fun to open. Once I know Melanie receives mine, I'll post about what I sent.

Lastly, I had the opportunity presented to me last week to take advantage of a fam (familiarization) trip for work to Cancun! Um, yes, please. Better yet, I get to bring Chris. We are very excited for the little adventure, and while I will be working and have a very full schedule for the 4 days we are there, there is no doubt that a trip to Mexico for work is not a bad gig to say the least! With that...

Chris and I have felt very blessed lately. We have been feeling very full in our lives, and it is a great feeling. Not necessarily monetarily speaking and not in terms of things (because we always struggle with feeling content in these areas), but more in the sense of having each other, our families, our health, our home, our faith, our jobs, our friends, our neighbors, our ability to pay our bills, the opportunities we are so often presented with and the list goes on. Although it's not "a lot" in some standards, it reallyis so much and sometimes we wonder why we deserve it all. We decided today to take a drive to Breckenridge and visit the church where the pastor that married us is located. Jimmy (no, he is not 5 by the way - he's just that cool) Humphreys runs Great Divide Calvary up there and we absolutley love it! As you may have read from previous posts, we have struggled finding a church that we feel comfortable with and have yet to find something here in Denver that suits us like GDC does in Breckenridge. I wish I could say we would make the 1.5 hour drive weekely for church, but it's just not realistic. Regardless, it was nice spending the morning with each other and talking with Jimmy and his wife after the service. Chris and Jimmy about biking trails in the area and me and Sabrina about which boutique I had to hit up in town -important stuff. Anyways, they are such great people have an awesome fellowship - it was a fulfilling morning for sure.

Okay, I'm off now to eat some Ben and Jerry's, Cherry Garcia. I didn't say I have given up all empty sugar - I'm not crazy!

Updates

Here's What I've Got:

1. Chris's sister, Leigh, her husband, Ryan, and our nephew, Gabe arrived to CO on Saturday. It has been great to see them. Gabe is a doll and I want to clone him. Creepy? Perhaps...but he's too cute to care.

2. We let the cat out on his harness and leash on Saturday. I'd say it was pure embarrassment for all involved. He hated it ...and us. He was mean to us the rest of the day and sat in a corner in the basement pouting. We thought it was best not to bother him.

3. Our camera broke this weekend, or the battery did, or something. The girl on the phone at the Casio 'help' desk was in fact very unhelpful and rude taboot. I always wonder if anything happens to them, as this call was "...monitored and recorded for quality insurance purposes." Pretty sure there was no quality insurance going on. Anyways, this has prevented us from taking pictures of the cat's outing and....

4. Mestizo's cd release party. Chris's brother in-law, Mark, and his band released their newest album and it is simply amazing. I feel a bit honored that they played at our wedding, my only regret was taking pictures during one of the best parts of the evening. Listen to them here.

5. Lawnmowers, weedwackers and grass seed - oh my! That's where our money went this weekend. We hope it was worth it and the little seeds start to grow. I also planted some flowers and spread wildflower seed in our flower bed area - I am already starting to see tiny sprouts. Fun!

6. Was supposed to run my longest run before the Bolder Boulder on Saturday. I mapped it out on Friday and headed out with confidence Sat. morning. I was supposed to run 6.5 miles and was home in an hour. I was elated. That is, until I realized I took a wrong turn and only ran 5. Boo. We shall see how Monday goes....I hope I can do 6.2.

7. We will have a new niece or nephew in November. Chris's sister, Erin, is pregnant with their 4th! We are very excited about this but have yet to make any commitments promising to babysit all of them at one time....yet ;) Apparently Jack, the oldest, was quite horrified and worried that the doctor just found a baby in mommy's tummy when they showed him the ultrasound. "What?! They just found that in there, Mom? Ahh!" was his reaction I think.

8. My brother in-law, Pat, returns from a year in Afghanistan in early June. The time cannot come soon enough, as I know my sister and Cutter have missed him dearly. Michelle is a trooper, however, and has been through 3 deployments with her husband gone for months at a time...hopefully this was the last. I don't think I could handle having to see them without their third wheel one more time.

9. I had a delicious breakfast-Gyro pita, french fries and strawberry milkshake late Saturday night (a few beers and I am sold on late night dining). It's been awhile since I've had some good ol' fashioned, j-u-n-k food and I didn't regret it one bit the next morning...breakthrough!

That's about it for now - enjoy the afternoon!

Catching Up

May is flying by and if the past few days are any indication of the summer to come, it looks like it's going to be a busy one! Although we haven't been up to anything major, Chris and I have been enjoying the nice weather, longer nights and generally just hanging out with each other and our family and friends. During the past 12 days we have:

-Gone on 6 evening bike rides and have discovered several new dream homes in our neighborhood

-Tried 5 new dining options including, Steve's Snappin Dogs (Hotdogs), Mexcal (Mexican), Geez Louise (Coffee), My Big Fat Cupcake (obvs.) and Jax Subs (Sandwiches). All of which were just, eh, but fun to try nonetheless

-Have cleared out our basement in preparation for the last 2 things, baseboards and carpet

-Hung out with the neighbors twice

-Pulled 2 trashcans full worth of weeds and are only 1/4 way done

-Made one breakfast and one dinner for our two lovely mom's

-Brunch and shopping with some girlfriends for me and bike ride and beers with a buddy for Chris

-...and, if I may, my own personal accomplishment of having run over 25 miles in the pas 12 days!! Pretty sure I never thought I would ever put 'my', '25' and 'run' in the same sentence. Woo hoo.

It will be a Kampsnider extravaganza towards the end of the month, as Chris has several family members headed into town, his little brother, Tim, is graduating, there are two kiddos birthday parties, a cd release party for his brother-in-law, Mark, 3 family bbq's and one Memorial Day run, the Bolder Boulder.

Here are a few random pictures of the past several days...

Our nephew, Jack. Looking too cute in slightly small pajamas and cowboy boots. Nice.

My mom's day brunch set-up. On the menu: Blueberry Scones, Berry filled Crepes with Whipped Cream and Egg, Asparagus and Swiss mini quiches...um, delicious if I do say so myself.

Easter Weekend Recap

Because all blog posts are better with pictures and because I am in a post-vacation, back at work and it's only Monday, I wish I was outside enjoying the weather, So. Much. To. Unpack., must clean the house, dreading my afternoon run and don't feel much like writing kind-of mood, I thought I would post a few of our weekend in Nashville. Although we missed our two other guys, Byron (in Hawaii) and Pat (in Afghanistan), we had a great time.

Chris and I at Cutter's soccer game

Michelle and I at soccer game

Car ride - The tanning bed, bleached blond look is just starting to settle after about a week (previous post). I dare you to ask me if I just got off of a cruise.

Love this picture of my mom and dad - cute, huh?

Enjoying the day at Knockem'Hill BBQ - yum!

Our golf outing

Uncle Chris (or as Cutter prefers, just "Uncle") and Cutter

My mom and I's first real golf outing. We spent the afternoon yelling, "We're Golfers!" anytime we made contact with the ball. Unnecessary and completely obnoxious to everyone around us? Probably. But, oh-so-fun? Most definitely.

Not only does my sister look like a pro golfer, she plays like one too. Typical. Good at just about everything.

Easter morning, opening Bachugans. Bachu-what's? I'm still not exactly sure, but I know they're popular amongst the 7-year-olds these days.

The Easter table. Notice the awesome, real, church pew here. My sister could, and should, for that matter have her house in a magazine. This is just ONE example of her awesomeness when it comes to decor.
Sweet, crazy, wild, Bode. Despite his 90 pounds of muscle, this dog still thinks he's a lap dog. Love him.
Dad and me. No, his glasses aren't Blue-Blockers, but very, very close. Oh Dad...sigh.

May I just use this picture to insert the total cheese-ballish, "He's going to make such a great Dad one day" comment?! But, really....He is.

I secretly wanted to steal my sister's Frye boots - if only I was an itty bitty size 6!

Hope you had a great Easter!
