Has it really been almost a week since I have gabbed at you all? Oh my!
Psst. I will let you in on a little secret. When I don't post, it's usually because one of two reasons:
a) I am busy at work. Yes, it's true, I do actually work. I know, it was wrong to fool you all into thinking that I blog/etsy browse/look up recipes/make charts/rant and rave/shop for a living -only leaving you to wonder how in the world I manage to receive a paycheck every two weeks, teehee. But, what goes around comes around and we are officially b-u-s-y.
or
b) I don't have any sort of picture to adorn my post. Why this bothers me? I have no clue.
And so, here I am, with plenty on my plate at work AND without any pictures, posting away regardless. Ahh, it feels good to break my own rules.
Nothing extremely noteworthy, just thought I would update you on a few highlights of the past 6 days.
- I babysat the. cutest. 6 month old last Saturday. His name is Fletcher, but is referred to as baby Fletch. Their dog, Dr. Noodles, was there too. Haha, I kind of got a kick out of that name! The parents, who are friends of friends, are pretty adorable, stylish to boot and have one kick-ass kid. Chris chose to skip out on the babysitters club adventures, but I made sure to let him know how much fun we were having without him by sending several "guess what baby Fletch is doing now?" text messages. Oh yea, I made some good money too, where I spent the next day at...
- TJ Maxx Home Goods. Hooray for Home Goods. Hooray for Mom for dragging me into Home Goods, before I was "savvy" enough to realize it's awesomeness in reasonably priced home decor. Hooray for my $5 basket. Hooray for my orange and white graphic print over sized pillow. Hooray for me for NOT buying a $100 purse.
- We spent last Sunday evening at our last Jazz in the Park for the summer. Brie, crackers, jam, dark chocolate, wine, beer, wine (no worries, we walk here), feet in the grass, blanket on the ground, the sunset over the skyline whilst being entertained by the finest people watching in all of Denver, a cool breeze, good company, lively music...it's always a great time. We will miss you Jazz in the Park - can't wait for next summer.
- We had our neighbors, Meghan and Mark over for dinner last night. We dined on Smoked Brie (we obviously love us some Brie), Crackers and Jam (ditto), wine and beer (ditto and ditto), Summer Pizza, a BBQ Chicken Pizza (ahem, pizzas are easy. Easy not to mess up that is.), ooh, and some of Leigh's (who's family could still use some thoughts and prayers) amazing chocolate chip cookies for dessert. I think I successfully made a decent cookie. If you know me, you know that this is by far my worst domestic skill. I was pretty pleased when they asked for another. Chris gave me a wink too, which confirmed the baking success.
And lastly, on the horizon for a good time: KiNGs of LeOn this Sunday at Red Rocks. We are stoked.
Gotta run. Getting an influx of 'e-mail dings' reminding me that, yes indeed, I am still at work.

grr
Today, I am having a day.
Today my hair is greasy and my skin is shiny (not glowing, just shiny). I have an incredibly huge, ahem, inflamation right smack in the middle of my cheek that makes me look all of 14 years old.
I did not get enough sleep last night which meant my morning routine got screwed up, which meant that I was running very late for my 8:30 meeting , which meant that I ran out the door wearing....
a dress that is just a tad too low for work-appropriate. This means I have been constantly readjusting the thing every two seconds all day long. And to make matters worse, I am certain that our CEO caught me in the re-adjusting, looking down with the "can you see down my dress" ponder, twisty, turn-y act as he walked around the corner this morning.
I went to the Futon store during lunch to find a new futon cover as ours has been through the ringer only to find that it has closed/gone out of business/was seized. I never knew how tough it would be to find a cover for one of these things.
I am several pounds heavier than I was yesterday - and I feel it. So what if I maybe had a hotdog, 2 beers, ice cream, and possibly some candy at the Rockie's game last night? We rode our bikes to and from...doesn't that count for anything? grr.
I can not, for the life of me, find our original "before" pictures of our basement on our computer. The ones from when we first moved in. And because I am that stubborn, I don't want to post any afters. Our carpet was installed Monday and looks lovely, but I just have to show you befores...and, yes, that is a whine.
I am on our company picnic's planning committee - which happens to be this Sunday. There are several things that bother me about this.
#1) Somehow I feel like my job has been defined as such. Tiffany, the company picnic planner. Doesn't have anything else she could/should/wants to be doing. We will ask her all things picnic related including what side dishes are still needed, can we bring our dog, is alcohol allowed at the park, what the weather is going to be like, what will we do if there is rain, how does the game badminton work, etc. etc. We will drop all supplies including plates, napkins, red and white table cloths, paper plates and loads of Country Time Lemonade off at her desk as if it were the picnic headquarters. She will arrive early to the picnic to see that the 2x5 monster grill arrives safely and she will stay late to see that everyone has thrown away their paper cup.
#2) The thing is on a weekend - in the middle of the day - all day. And while I do love my company, nothing really makes me want to spend a whole day with the receptionist/accountant/IT guy on my day off. I mean really.
#3) I will most likely be assigned all other random tasks from here on out. Think holiday parties, company get togethers, charity functions, etc. And not because I think I am doing a fabulous job or am tooting my own horn here. Rather because we lost most of these "catch all" people during layoffs and I can sense that they have been hunting for suitable replacement. Mind you, suitable just means not running the other way when asked to help.
With that, I'll continue with my real job equipped with my greasy hair, shiny skin, large zit, futon cover-less, picnic e-mail overload, heavy-feeling self for just a few more hours and wait for this day to pass. geesh.
PS - perhaps it is a problem that most of my posts have been catergorized rants and raves?! ;)

Where's the Beach?
We're back from Cancun and this is the first question I asked after waking up this morning to cold, damp weather!
Chris and I had a lovely time, despite it being a very busy (but informative) trip for me. I am glad that we were able to go. I think our time in paradise was just right- after all, there is only so long I can sip on endless caloric Mojitos...sigh. Rough life I am told.
Anyways, for your reading pleasure, here is my semi-professional recap of our experience in Cancun during the past 4 days.
Cancun's beaches are pristine. With movie-like crystal blue water and fine white sands, I have yet to see another coastline as picture perfect (Note: Cabo, Costa Rica, California and Hawaii have all been included in the running).
The service in Mexico is impeccable. Hotel staff, tour guides and locals in the area are willing and happy to help you at a moments notice. The majority speak English and love to help with your skills (or lack there of) in Spanish.
Cancun is the place to do...virtually nothing. In a good way for most - but in a bad way for adventure enthusiasts. While there are a few tours such as snorkeling, shopping, sailing and day trips to Chichen Itza and Telum, plan on reading a book, sitting on the beach and soaking up some (very hot) rays, as activities are usually exhausted in the first two to three days. Cancun is the perfect 3-4 day trip.
Cancun, and Mexico in general, is hurting for our business. Most of the resorts are hurting in terms of keeping their staff employed due to lack of tourism - and some are running on as low as 9% occupancy. While that's nice in terms of avoiding crowds, most want to go on vacation where the resorts are buzzing, the nightlife is plentiful, and the dining outlets are busy enough to know that something is not wrong with the restaurant. Honestly, it is sad to see...these hotels NEED business. Mexico could not catch a break this year.
After site inspecting several hotels, dining at several locations and staying in a beautiful property, I can say that there is no reason to exclude Mexico from travel plans. There are no Mexica drug cartels on the resort beaches, no one walking around with masks and no epidemics that seem to be looming. Although, they will hold a funny thermometer up to your skin in the airport to take your temperature...
Lastly, Coco Bongo is perhaps the. best. night club I have ever been to. What with impersonators from Elvis to Britney and Cirque de Soliel style acrobatics combined with a few of those shots with the salt and lime, it's bound to be a delightful evening (and, ahem, a rough morning). Good thing Chris and I were some of the early ones home - at 2:30am.
Ooh - and a random fact:
- Cancun can be translated to mean "The Nest of Snakes". Kind of creepy, right? Before settling here, this strip had more species of snakes than anywhere in Mexico. Relax - I did not see a one during the trip and am told that they moved out almost 20 years ago.
We're glad to be back, but looking at these pictures sure makes me ready to book a flight again soon! Enjoy.

Headed South...
To CaNcUn that is...Gah, so excited!
Chris and I are headed out this afternoon for my last minute "work" trip. I have to put work in quotes, because, work or not, I am still in for a mini vacation, chips and salsa, and a cold drink - all with my favorite person in the world.
While I am there, I will visit 8 properties, several local vendors and a destination management team with other planners from around the country. As for Chris, he just has to decide which book to read and what drink to order next - and he deserves it; he has been working up a storm lately. I'm a bit nervous to represent our company solo, but am looking forward to the learning experience.
Anyways, we are staying here for 4 days. I really can't believe it - we just may be a little too spoiled sometimes.
Ooh, and our camera battery arrived yesterday - so no phone pictures!
Until next week, Adios my Amigos.
ps - rain is in the forecast all weekend. What's with that?!
